Hands on with Tangledeep
Thank you Impact Gameworks for a copy of the game!
If you are a fun of Rouge like, dungeon crawler games, trust me you will enjoy this game, just pick it up! For those who want some more details keep reading. When you boot up the game the first thing that will notice is the amazing music. I really enjoy the music in this game. It really makes me feel like I am in this fantasy world. The game basically tells a story of an adventurer that wants to unlock the mysteries of Tangledeep and if you make it to the end there is a world no one has ever seen. Basically, you try to get as far as you can in the dungeon and then have to restart once you die. The severity of your punishment depends on what mode you started on. There is the normal mode called Heroic Mode where only baked goods and town progress will be saved. It is important to note, this is the default way you are supposed to play. All character progression will be erased when you die. In hardcore mode, everything is erased when you die, and this mode is really for seasoned and veterans of this type of game. Lastly, there is adventure mode where you just return to town and you lose half money, unspent jp, and xp progress; this mode is for beginners. I choose the adventure mode because I am a novice.
There is a lot going on in this game. There are multiple job classes to choose from and this is awesome, because every time you play, you can choose a new class and the gameplay will be different in combat. Speaking of combat and jobs, there are several abilities you get to learn and use while you are dungeon crawling. I choose the hunter class and some of the skills that I have are hail of arrows (damage to multiple enemies), Quick step (I get to move before enemy does) Grappling hook (pull yourself to wall), just to name a few. When you level up you get to choose a stat to get a bonus on that stat. There are tons of weapons, armor and accessories to collect while in the dungeons. There are a variety of items that will aid you in your quest. Lastly you can collect recipes and make food at the campfire back at your base. These recipes will give you special effects. Like a smoothie will clear all negative status effects and make you immune to new ones for 8 turns.
The dungeon is randomly generated each time you enter. It is turn based, every time you move the monsters move too. There are hidden areas too and treasures to find as you're out adventuring. So far, I have really enjoyed my time with this game. I can tell just be the first few hours of playing this is one of those games that will have permanent spot on my Switch. This game is a steal at $19.99 and any fan of dungeon crawlers or Rouge like games will enjoy this awesome game!
I have been playing games since I was a boy and now am a 33 year old game journalist. Welcome to my site!
